Cities in the Coachella Valley

By Lindsey Stafford

Tucked between the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains, The Coachella Valley is unlike any place in the world. The discovery of artesian wells and addition of the Southern Pacific Railroad and Route 99 helped to drive commerce, agriculture, and tourism. The Coachella Valley quickly became popular with celebrities, adventurers, and wanderers alike for the sun, solitude, and serenity. It has since grown into a populous area of full and part-time residents and is host to an array of events including the Coachella Valley Music Festival, Stagecoach Music Festival, Palm Springs Modernism Week, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The Coachella Valley is comprised of 9 cities - Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, and Coachella - each having their own history and vibe.
